This photograph shows up close the details of the DC overhead power supply support pole.

Notice that the pole is really two lengths of used railway rail braced at set intervals.

Because the used rail is work hardened and full of micro fractures, these posts have been known to fail.

Therefore, modern DC overhead contruction uses the standard rolled structural shapes and not used railway rail.
